I have some questions about data recovery from a Opal drive with SEE 8.2 installed. I have made the custom WinPE SEE Full Disk Access and SEE Recover CD's as per Symantec instructions. Note that the Access one required registering drivers by loading and unloading a Hive in the registry and the Recover one did not. I do not why but that is what the instructions say. The Recover CD worked but I can't get the Access one to work. I am using Opal drives. The way I see it is like the Access tool is used to access data on the drive if you know the user name and password to then save it off the drive, and the Recover tool just unlocks the encryption on the Opal drive so you can access the data once. Am I understanding this correctly?
Has anyone successfully integrate the use of SEE and Opal drives consistently for a while? I am running a proof of concept to if possible and feasible drop software encryption using Becrypt and transition over to hardware encryption using Opal SED's and SEE to manage it. So far I am happy with SEE but I need to make sure I can access data of drives when the due to OS of hardware failures occur. Another nice thing to have would be the ability to have the user restore the OS on their own by having a partition with the OS image in the drive, then use a boot CD for them to load a new image. Is this possible? Is anyone doing this?
One last question for now. what is the difference between the Access and Recovery CD's you make from the How to create custom startup WinPE CD document and the ISO files that come with the install files?
Thank you in advance!
